Export and track your wheel trades from Fidelity
Fidelity's two CSV downloads hold everything a wheel tracker needs. Here is where they are, what is in them, and how WheelCopilot reads them.
File 1: positions (what you hold today)
- Sign in at Fidelity.com and open Accounts & Trade → Portfolio → Positions.
- Choose All accounts so Roth, taxable and HSA positions come in one file with their account names.
- Click Download (the arrow icon above the table). The file is named
Portfolio_Positions_<date>.csv.
Each row has the account, symbol, description, quantity, last price, current value, cost basis total and average cost. Short options appear with a leading minus sign and a negative quantity, for example -VZ261120C46, quantity -1: a VZ call expiring 2026-11-20 at a $46 strike. A bought (long) option has a positive quantity. Cash shows as SPAXX** and Pending activity.
File 2: activity (your trades, premiums and dividends)
- Open Accounts & Trade → Activity & Orders.
- Set the date range (up to the broker's maximum; several downloads cover several years).
- Click Download. The file is named
Accounts_History.csv.
Rows read YOU SOLD OPENING TRANSACTION, YOU BOUGHT CLOSING TRANSACTION, EXPIRED, ASSIGNED, DIVIDEND RECEIVED and so on, with quantity, price and net amount. That action text is how a tracker knows a $0 close expired rather than was assigned.
Upload both
In WheelCopilot, Account Settings has two sections: Section 1 for the positions file, Section 2 for the activity file. CSV files are read directly in seconds, without AI, and reconcile to the cent; a few things to know:
- The positions file is a snapshot. Positions no longer in it are removed for the accounts it covers; a contract you closed in the app that the file still lists is reopened.
- Rows already imported are skipped, so re-uploading an overlapping history is safe.
- Long calls and puts become holdings shown in contracts; short contracts become Active Options.
- Money-market and "Pending activity" lines are cash, not shares.
Keeping it current
Upload a fresh positions file whenever you trade; the Holdings page warns you when your trade history has moved past your last positions upload. Upload the activity file monthly or after a run of trades.
Other brokers
Schwab, Vanguard, Robinhood, Interactive Brokers, E*TRADE and Merrill Edge CSV and PDF statements are read too, by the general CSV reader or by AI, and are marked beta in the app: check the result and tell us if anything comes through wrong.
Frequently asked questions
Why do my Fidelity option symbols start with a minus sign?
Fidelity prefixes short (sold) option positions with a minus sign and shows their quantity as negative. The rest of the symbol is the underlying, expiry (YYMMDD), C or P, and the strike.
How far back does the Fidelity activity download go?
Fidelity limits each download's date range; download several ranges to cover several years. WheelCopilot skips rows it has already imported, so overlapping files don't create duplicates.
